Hsinchu - Week 55 - "When thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren"

Hey family! (Because, indeed, you are all my family in the gospel). How are y'all this week? Our week was loooooong because our Monday was a proselyting day and we went to the temple on Wednesday. But Wednesday we also had interviews with President Peterson so we had our Pday split into two days, which is why I am now writing on a Thursday. Hahaha the past few days have been 充分, full of blessings and abundance. We feel so lucky to be serving the Lord as we labor among His people to find those who are searching for Him.

I want to work on having the name of Jesus Christ always on my lips and the Book of Mormon always open in my hands.

On Saturday, November 10, a true convert and our dear friend Sister Liu was baptized! The next day she was confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost. She feels so blessed that she will always be able to have the Spirit with her as she always remembers the Savior, takes His name upon her, and keeps His commandments.

We also had Mission Leadership Council this week and President Peterson has been stressing the importance of each individual missionary's personal conversion to the Savior. Therefore, we need to all be feasting upon the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon daily. We all need to be ministering to our own companions just as we minister to those we are teaching. SO, something fun: our zone has implemented a new practice in order to try to apply President's council, and we call it THE BOOK OF MORMON: LIVE! Every other night after all have arrived home, we and the other members of our zone "gather around the campfire" and join in a group call over Line to read scriptures together. One companionship leads the discussion and reading. As they read the verses of scripture aloud, everyone is free to share their thoughts, testimony, or questions with the group. So far we have only done the group call once, but it was a spiritual and strengthening experience! (See Luke 22:32).

In my personal scripture study this week, I came across a verse in the Book of Alma, chapter 1. To give a little background, this is in the time when Alma the Younger becomes chief judge over the people of Nephi, and after solving some problems involving priestcraft and people fighting against the church, the church begins to prosper again. The scripture that stood out to me most reads:

30 And thus, in their prosperous circumstances, they did not send away any who were naked, or that were hungry, or that were athirst, or that were sick, or that had not been nourished; and they did not set their hearts upon riches; therefore they were liberal to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, whether out of the church or in the church, having no respect to persons as to those who stood in need.

This is so cool. The church that this verse is talking about is Jesus Christ's church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is also Christ's church, the exact and very same church, now restored to the earth through a living Prophet, Joseph Smith. It is our duty as members of the fold of God to be liberal unto all, whether out of the church or in the church, and love them. And minister to them. And invite them to come unto Christ so we can become strengthened and perfected in Him. And I love being a member of a church where THAT is its purpose. I am seeking to become a better minister, I am nowhere near perfect. But through Christ we can be made perfect eventually.

I invite you to go to church this Sunday with a smile on your face and a goal to strengthen your family-your fellow brothers and sisters in the gospel. You will be blessed, and you will be strengthened.

I love you all! Talk to ya in like four days.
