Hualien - Week 46 - The Gathering of Israel
We went to Taidong for zone conference last Tuesday. It was SO exciting, mine and Sister Lee's first time in Taidong! Taidong is really the boonies, and let me tell ya, it's a special place. They have this American-style burger shop there called Sam's Burgers. Everyone ordered the famous peanut butter burger. Does that sound normal to you all? Because apparently it's not an American thing but I can't remember and everyone is obsessed with it. And since I 吃素， aka eat rabbit food according to some, they gave me a salad and fries drizzled with peanut butter and sprinkled with cheese. Is that a thing? I don't know, but they were honestly so good. AND without me even trying to convince her, Sister Lee has decided to go vegetarian, at least for the rest of her mission. It's cheaper, anyways!
We talked about how Family History can be an amazing finding tool, a very useful way to attract people to learning about the restored gospel. I believe that the tender feelings of love we have for our families is God-given, it was planted deep in our hearts before we were born. And when we can help people feel those feelings by inviting them to talk about their own family and ancestors, it becomes a good way to transition into teaching them about truths restored by God through a living prophet. We treasure these truths that include temple ordinances like sealing and baptisms for the dead. We want everyone to be blessed by these ordinances. So does God. And this is why it is of utmost importance that we take the gospel to every nation, tongue, and kindred, to every corner of the earth (Revelation 14:6, Mosiah 15: 28-31, D&C 133: 37).
The prophet, President Russell M. Nelson said that there are two things left to happen; the Gathering of Israel and the Second Coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ. To fully understand the Gathering of Israel may require extensive study of the Bible, The Book of Mormon, other scripture and other history, but basically it just means this, as said beautifully by President Nelson:
"When we speak of the gathering, we are simply saying this fundamental truth: every one of our Heavenly Father’s children, on both sides of the veil, deserves to hear the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. They decide for themselves if they want to know more."
And so it is our duty and our privilege as missionaries to teach repentance and do our best to bring these souls we love unto Christ through His gospel. We are so blessed to be a part of this marvelous and madly exciting work, the very work of our Lord Jesus Christ! I love you all.
